practice, practice, practice...

I've had a few weeks off from competing in preparation for a decathlon in early june. Things are looking really good, especially in the hurdles and the throws. I think I am starting to grab hold of what has been limiting my hurdle speed. It's really coming along at drill speed, but things are always different at full tilt. I've got the raw speed to drop a second and a half (worth 150 points), I just haven't been able to position myself for it. I feel like it's time, though. It's going to click any day now.

My body is getting little flashes of injury that come and go quickly at the muscular level. It's weird. However, I feel like I'm ready to bust the performance of my life (which I need).

Here are few "doublespeed" clips from practice last week. (Sorry for the "shoot's" and "baghh's" that sound like cuss words at high speed. I promise California hasn't gotten to me that bad.)

I'm feeling really consistent in the throws and feel like muscle memory is well established. Shot Put is still not where it could be, but I'm anticipating that it will come together when it needs too. My discs are landing 130's-140's all day long and my jav rarely falls short of mid 170's.

This sunday night we are holding a pole vault competition at our facility. It was mostly for our team, but it has attracted some of the greatest vaulters in the world. If everyone shows up, we will have the world champion, the olympic gold medalist, and many other 19' vaulters. It should be a good show. It will be a dozen of the world's greatest pole vaulters... and... me. Humbling, to say the least.

In other news, we hosted Pete & Kim Robinson with their little Maya last weekend (my college roommate). This weekend we have Pastor Mike Hernandez and family from Kansas City. Next weekend Emily Craighead (Sandy's college roommate) will be here for a friend's marathon. We'll post pics of all three later.

Hey, anytime you feel like something more than a "shoot" or a "baghh" is needed, you just let me know and I'll provide some of the more colorful aspects of my international vocabulary. Did you know Polish has a word that is so bad it sort of encompasses all of our less user friendly expletives? Any way I can help.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for the note on our blog. It is fun to read about someone on a similar journey! Not many people know what it is REALLY like to train like you guys do (or be married to you!) It feels god to be understood! Rowan and I will not be going with Joe to Texas (tickets were too expensive...and we would need one for Rowan now, too!) but I'm sure Joe will enjoy competing with you. And Lauri has offered to text me results...so I'll still be in the track-wives loop. Best of luck to you. And we'll just plan on seeing you in Eugene, okay :)? Laura

Psalm 20:4-8 May He give you what you want and make all your plans succeed, and we will shout for joy when you succeed, and we will raise a flagn in the name of our God. May the Lord give you all that you ask for. Now I know the Lord helps His appointed king. He answers him from His holy heaven and saves him with His strong right hand. Some gtrust in chariots, others in horses, BUT WE TRUST THE LORD OUR GOD.. They are overwhlmed and defeated, but we march forward and win. :+)
